Second Surf is my life work. My name is Barbara Bechtel. I am a mixed media artist, as well as a bead and jewelry designer. I am passionately focused on art as life and life as art. I truly believe that a beautiful world can be made from our hands.

I paint, I draw, I carve, I make things to wear, to use, and to love. I graduated with a BFA in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2003. I live in Merritt Island, Florida and live for all things that surround the sea. I grew up in NW Pennsylvania but now call Florida and the whole of the South my home.

This is my website. This is where I share my story as well as the stories of others by whom I am truly inspired.

I am a living-breathing-working artist.

I perceive my work as my calling and it is how I make my living. Every bite of food I consume, everything I do has been made possible by people who enjoy my work, and for that, I am immensely blessed.
